“Any time there is a fat person onstage as anything besides the butt of a joke, it’s political. Add physical movement, then dance, then sexuality and you have a revolutionary act.”  — Heather MacAllister

  1. I came across The Nearsighted Owl’s website while looking at a pin of the Bobble Blanket on Pinterest. To make a long story short, I’ve been struggling with my obese body for a while now. I am slowly accepting myself as being fat and if people think I’m gross looking…too bad so sad. I’ve spent too much time trying to hide it. I do want to get healthier though, so my first step was to control my nighttime eating by getting a hobby and my second step was to start dancing to get my body moving. I figured learning how to crochet will keep my hands busy and thats how I came upon The Nearsighted Owls website.
Crocheting, dancing and truth all in one place is not by accident. I believe God’s devine intervention has lead me to your sight. I am learning and gaining so much insight. Your words have helped clarify my feelings and thoughts.
Thanks so much for a truley awesome website.
Kudos to you and your girls.

  2. I absolutely love the posts on your page. Reading them is an inspiration during my recovery from an eating disorder of over a decade. You guys help me love my body by loving yours. You help me see that I can be big, beautiful, and healthy!

  3. Oh, I love you. I haven’t seen a performance but I love you already for what you stand for. I’ve been fat since I was a child and have never, ever been treated like I possess any amount of sexual attractiveness until now. The first time men started actually looking at me was after I lost weight, which I’ve regained and which I struggle with because I feel so ugly. You are an inspiration to me, because your purpose is to remind me and women like me, and teach others that sex appeal isn’t about weight or shape, its about owning and using what you got. Keep up the good work!

  4. You ladies are what I strive to be! My whole life I have been told that I can’t do things because I’m, well fat. No one know how much I love to dance and I am very jealous of you ladies that get to do so on a regular basis. You don’t know how badly I wish I was closer to LA so that maybe on the off chance I could somehow meet you ladies! I will most assuredly continue to read your blog for inspiration. There were not many “larger” role models where I moved from so it would be nice to hear from ladies like me who actually love who they are! Keep inspiring people!
